Good to know before you start
The questions we hear most on a first call.
01How much do estimates cost?
Our design consultations are free of charge, whether at your home, place of business or our showroom. Usually our labor proposals are free too. There are exceptions to this last rule, which would be discussed with you during your free consultation.
02Once I sign a contract, when will work begin?
The design and building approval processes begin in the immediate days after contract signing. Every client develops their own flow with their interior designer; more decisive clients finish design more quickly, while those who take more time with decisions may find the process takes a little longer. Once the design is completed, all permits are procured and the building grants approval, we can begin construction.
03Is staying on budget achievable?
Absolutely yes. When working with a project developer, you'll be informed of prices related to labor and construction and given a guide to help you understand costs for finishes. By setting a clear budget for finishes early in the process, the designers at KBR have a goal to meet and can make sure you stay under it.
04Who will be managing my project?
Before signing any contracts, your point of contact is the project developer or estimator. In the design phase it is your designer. During construction it is the project manager, who is on site daily to review the work, take photographs and address issues. Weekly meetings with you, the project manager and the designer keep the project moving and gather feedback from everyone.
05Should I stay in my home during the renovation?
It depends on the project. Clients renovating small spaces, such as a single kitchen or one of multiple bathrooms, can usually remain at home without incident. If there will be no usable bathroom, or the work affects the entire apartment, we recommend staying elsewhere. Households with small children or pets are advised not to stay, due to reduced air quality and job-site hazards.
06What happens when everything is done?
Once the scope of work and the punch list are complete, KBR cleans the apartment and returns your keys. We remain available for any immediate or ongoing issues, and we provide a 7-year non-transferable warranty on labor-related items.
